2) A second law of gestalt, that a good continuation, or good figure, suggests that visual perception works to pull figures out of the background, to give them definition against the undistinguished field in which they are located. pp39
3) The localization of the text makes possible the selective use of the text by varied audiences for varied purposes. pp 41
4) Instead of attempting to base teaching practice on scant and tentative results, we may find it more expedient to view the rhetoric of visual design as an evolving art. pp 42

1)When considering what you are going to write about you need to take into consideration multiple factors like the audience you are trying to reach and to make it interesting enough to not only get their attention but keep their attention also. You need to be able to put all necessary information in the writing but yet do it in a visual way that does not overwhelm the reader and still get them interested and able to focus on the important topics.
2) The layout of the text plays a big part in how the writing is perceived. By good continuation the writer can emphazie certain points in the text visually and put importance on certain points. This I feel will also make the text interesting and organized and easy for the reader to follow. With good continuation the reader does not have to try to fill in missing pieces which can lead to a misconception of what the writer is trying to say.
3) The way the text is layed out helps to keep topics organized. It allows the reader to go to a certain area and get the information that they need without having to jump around the pages. It gives easy access to importnat information that the reader is looking for. This helps to keep the reader focused and interested in the topic. It is also a way to reach many different audiances at the same time. They may not all be reading the text for the same reasons but they will all be able to find the topic important to them easily.
4) The essay format that we were taught in high school was the same layout over again with maybe a different topic. There was no discussion of visual design or rhetorical content. I feeling that allowing students to broaden their research and writing ideas will allow for better written assignments. It seems also that with so much emphasis on internet and media these days that it will eventually become impossible to not incorperate visual presentation at least to some degree to our assignments.
